BBVL loses 68-77 in Herne / Planning for second league to start soon

After the loss against Donau-Ries (65-75) on Friday, chances were bad for Leipzig’s BBV Eagles Women to stay in the league. But after today’s 68-77-loss against the Herner TC it is certain. The Eagles are bottom of the league table and one of the teams in relegation and thus will say good bye to first league women’s basketball after six years. The only possibility to stay in the league next season would be that there are not any teams coming up or another first-league club going down.

Eagles receive Donau-Ries on Friday and travel to Herne on Sunday

The end of the season is near and it has not been that full of suspense for years in the Women‘s Baseketball Bundesliga. Before the closing double game day standings have not been decided yet. At the top of the table, in the middle and in the fight against relegation everything is open. And who is really deep in this fight are the BBV Leipzig Eagles. But four other teams are there with them. Between eighth and last play-off position and between the two relegation positions eleven and twelve are only nuances. To avoid any calculations, the last but one has only one chance: First of all to win against the sixth BG WWK Donau-Ries at home on Friday (gym at Brüderstraße, 8.00 p.m.) and secondly a win in Herne on Sunday (3.30 p.m.).

Two-faced BBVL loses 73-90 in Marburg

For three quarters the BBV Leipzig’s Bundesliga Women played awful basketball against the BC Marburg on Saturday. For three quarters the Eagles seemed inhibited, not having any good ideas and wanting to have their way. But then they got focused, showed heart and soul and started a furious race to catch up. The Eagles turned a hopeless 41-67 (30th) into 73-82 within eight minutes. But it was too late. In the end the result was 73-90 (31-45) for Coach Ritz Ingram’s team. Thus the BBVL remains in the fight against relegation and needs to win the last two games to remain in the league.
