BBVL contracts Caroline Nwafor und Lena Hoffarth / Team presentation at Brüderstraße on Monday

The BBV Leipzig's Bundesliga team has grown further: Caroline Nwafor and Lena Hoffarth signed contracts until 2011. While 27-year old Nwafor comes to Leipzig from the Austrian first-league club WBC Wels, Hoffarth returns from a one-year stay at the US college Lees-McRae (North Carolina). Before, the 20-year old has played for Phoenix Hagen and gained some first-league experience with the Herner TC. With these contractings the Eagles team is almost complete. "We'll continue to watch the market and maybe contract one or two players more," says Leipzig's Sports Director Peter Maciej. "But they must fit into the team."

Katharina Wohlberg returns to the BBVL from Rotenburg and brings along Britta Hueske

The BBV Leipzig's Bundesliga team is taking shape. Katharina Wohlberg, well-known to the Eagles fans, returns to the BBVL. The 1.85m tall center played in Leipzig in the 2005/06 and 2007/08 season and has played for the Solent Suns (English first league) and the BG Rotenburg Scheeßel (German second league) since then. From the latter Kathi Wohlberg brings along Britta Hueske. That means double power for the Eagles. 25-year old Hueske has gained first-league experience in Wolfenbüttel and was a very important player for the Rotenburg team last season averaging 16 points per game.

Candace Williams is Eagles' third foreign player / Coach Merker plans with a team of 12

The BBV Leipzig has contracted forward Candace Williams. "Candace is very athletic, can shoot and also post up close to the basket," Eagles Coach Steffen Merker explains the decision for the 1.83m tall US American. "And she plays aggressive defense." During the last four years, the 22-year old played for the University of New Hampshire being top scorer of her team averaging 16.1 points and 8.1 rebounds. In Leipzig Williams has signed a contract until 2011 and is the club's third foreign player. Due to the regulation regarding the number of Germans on the court, Merker does not want to contract more than one additional foreign player.

Mia Johnson will be the BBVL's playmaker for next season / Anna Opel goes to Heidelberg

After contracting center player Lacey Haughian, the BBV Leipzig Bundesliga Women also have a new playmaker. Mia Johnson shall pull the Eagles' strings next season. Just like Haughian the 1.76m tall US American signed a one-year contract. However, unlike her compatriot Johnson has not gained experience as a pro so far but went through the renowned basketball program of Michigan State University.

The BBV Leipzig Eagles have contracted their first new player. Lacey Haughian will play the for the Bundesliga club next season. The 1.88 m tall US center played for the Danish championship semi-finalist Sisu Copenhagen last season, signed a one-year contract and will arrive in Leipzig in August. The 24-year old has already played for the Swedish first-league club Sallen Basket and the Black Hill State University.
